Work Placement

To successfully complete this qualification students are required to participate in 160 hours of Work Placement at a suitable beauty clinic or salon, performing practical beauty therapy tasks with a range of clients. Please note, students are responsible for securing a Work Placement, however Ivy College will assist students in finding a suitable Work Placement, if required.

Prior to commencing a work placement students must evidence:

  • Workplace Supervisors have professional qualifications, such as a Diploma of Beauty Therapy, with at least five years of clinical experience, and be a current member of an appropriate professional association; and
  • details of the beauty clinic and professional association.

What if I can’t find a suitable work placement?

Ivy will assist students with finding a suitable work placement to satisfy this essential component of the course.

Workshops

Our unique blended learning model offers the ultimate flexibility. Study online at your own pace, supported by your trainer, then attend regular workshops at one of our training locations in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA and SA.

At the workshops you will:

(i) receive practical training on essential components of this course
(ii) develop and demonstrate the skills required of a qualified beautician, and
(iii) access personal support from your trainer.

Interactive Support Webinars

At Ivy, we offer supplementary learning support through our optional interactive webinars. Designed specifically around your study plan, these regular online webinars cover subject specific content and provide an opportunity to interact with trainers, study coaches and your study peers in an online forum. Focusing on course theory and specific assessment tasks – each interactive support webinar is designed to equip you with the practical tools to help complete your course.

Our friendly Student Support Team are available to assist you with any student administration enquiry. You may access this support by either logging into myIVY, telephone or email. (i)

Trainer Support

At Ivy we believe there’s no such thing as too much support.

Your experienced trainer is available to offer help and advice at every stage of the course, starting with a welcome telephone call during orientation. Throughout your studies you may contact your trainer with any course-related query by logging into myIVY, telephone, LiveChat or video conference – based on your needs. As you may be juggling study with work or other commitments your trainer is also available to assist at designated times outside of business hours.

If you would like additional support you also have access to one-day workshops, where you can gain one-on-one support from your trainer. (i)

Technical Support

The technical support team is available to assist you with password resets, myIVY features and functionality and other general technical enquiries.  Simply raise a support ticket through myIVY or telephone during business hours. (i)

Student Networking 

You will have many opportunities to interact with your course peers, including supporting each other via online discussion forums. Friendly debates can often turn into excellent learning opportunities! If attending the workshops you will meet your peers in person and may develop and build relationships that last well and truly past your course end date.

Entry requirements

To enrol in Diploma courses with Ivy College, you will need the ability to read and write English to at least Year 12 level.

To show evidence of this ability, you will need to have satisfied the following:

  • During the enrolment process, demonstrate that you have the skills and capability to succeed in the course at least to the level of Year 12 by providing a copy of your Australian year 12 certificate, or completing the Diploma Entry Test.

All students are also required to have a unique email address and access to a computer with an internet connection.

Technology requirements

Upon successful application, you will gain access to myIVY, your purpose-built learning management system, in order to complete your coursework and assessment tasks. To do this you will need access to a computer satisfying the following minimum systems requirements:

Operating system: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux

Software: Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest versions available for free download at Adobe website)

Internet: Supported browsers include Firefox 3+, Google Chrome 4+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Opera 9+, Safari 3+ (download latest browser software for free online).  You will need a reliable internet connection, preferably Broadband (64 Kbit/sec or faster)

Access to a printer and digital camera/recording device may be required.
