Work Placements

Successfully completing the Event Project subject in this course involves planning and managing real events with real clients.

Please note, students are responsible for securing a Work Placement, however Ivy College will assist students in finding a suitable Work Placement, if required.

During your work placement, you will gain practical experience across a range of event production functions and event types. This will involve:

  • creating comprehensive event plans;
  • working within dedicated event budgets;
  • developing formal communication plans;
  • managing multiple operational components;
  • dealing with an event operations team; and
  • reporting to a wide range of stakeholders.

Prior to commencing a work placement, students must evidence:

  • their nominated Workplace Supervisors have professional qualifications, with at least five years of experience and hold a current membership with an appropriate professional association;
  • details of the organisation and professional association.

If you can’t find an event, we’ll create one together.

If you’re unable to access a work placement, you can still fulfil the course requirements by attending our regular workshops, where you will be organised into event operations teams, supervised by your trainer. Within these teams, you will undertake an active role in the planning, coordinating and staging of a number of different types of ‘real’ Ivy College events.

You will participate in at least two different types of Ivy College events, such as:

  • Graduation Ceremony
  • Fundraising Event
  • Student Social/Cocktail Party
  • Corporate Training Event

Your involvement in these events will require time outside of the workshops to plan and collaborate with your team, and stage each event.

Students are required to gain 90 hours of practical experience to complete the work placement.

Support Workshops

Whilst this is an online course, you will also have the opportunity to attend regular workshops at one of our training locations in NSW, VIC and QLD. These workshops are designed for those events students:

  • requiring personal support;
  • unable to access a work placement; and/or
  • electing to complete the required subject Responsible Service of Alcohol at an Ivy College workshop (delivered and assessed by an external RTO)

At Ivy, we offer supplementary learning support through our optional interactive webinars. Designed specifically around your study plan, these regular online webinars cover subject specific content and provide an opportunity to interact with trainers, study coaches and your study peers in an online forum. Focusing on course theory and specific assessment tasks – each interactive support webinar is designed to equip you with the practical tools to help complete your course.
